EMCO CHEMICAL DISTRIBUTORS ANNOUNCES CORPORATE HEADQUARTERS WILL MOVE TO PLEASANT PRAIRIE
During December 2009, the Village Plan Commission approved plans for EMCO Chemical Distributors to occupy the former Lawter International/Hexion Specialty Chemicals building at 8601 95th Street. In February 2010, the Village Board then authorized $10,000,000 in Industrial Revenue Bonds for the company. The company had plans to use the tax exempt bonds to purchase the property and make improvements that would allow them to distribute and blend specialty chemicals from the location.
Since that time, work has been ongoing at EMCO's Pleasant Prairie location. During early March of 2013, EMCO announced that it will also move its corporate headquarters from North Chicago, Illinois to Pleasant Prairie. The company indicated that the move will bring approximately 125 employees to Kenosha County. The move is expected to take place after construction at the Pleasant Prairie location is complete. Construction is expected to be complete this July.
EMCO indicated that the move to Pleasant Prairie was necessary because the company had run out of space in its North Chicago location. The company also indicated that approximately 200 jobs would remain in North Chicago as part of their packaging operations. EMCO President Edward Polen founded the company in 1971. During the 2009 and 2010 Village meetings, Polen identified some of the company's larger clients as: Rust-Oleum, EXXON, Sherwin-Williams, Valspar and others.
