The recently acquired Dublin School is the future home for the Pleasant Prairie Historical Society. Plans are to make the school fully accessible with its main level featuring a local history museum and its lower level featuring a community gathering space, kitchen, rest rooms, and material storage area. The Historical Society will work to restore and preserve the original character of the school which was constructed during 1927.
At the September 7, 2013, Dublin School Open House, more than 300 people toured the brick, two-room, school house. At the open house, residents collectively acknowledged that Pleasant Prairie is a fast growing, dynamic community, and that it is important to preserve the Village's heritage. Restoring Dublin School and offering information to residents, about the past, people and families from the community, and their way of life, will help to document and preserve the Village's heritage. Restoration of this historically significant school building will provide a home for the Society to exhibit our collection of Pleasant Prairie's historical events, stories, photographs, objects and other pieces of the past.
The Society has just begun the fundraising efforts to restore Dublin School. We estimate the cost of restoration to approach $500,000 and hope to raise these funds through donations, grants, in-kind services and other contributions by residents, business owners, and skilled tradesmen.
