General Government Departments in the Village include: Police, Municipal Court, Fire & Rescue, Public Safety Communications, Public Works, Parks, Engineering, Building Inspection, Assessing, Information Technology, Finance, Human Resources, Administration and Community Development. These departments receive income from property taxes, loans, grants, impact and other fees, the resale of capital equipment and donations. These funds are then used to cover day-to-day operating expenses, large capital purchases or projects, and to pay down General Government debt.
WHAT TO EXPECT IN 2014
Pleasant Prairie's 2014 General Government Budget will result in a small property tax increase. For a home in the Village valued at $188,000, this will translate into an $11.28 increase in the Village portion of the property tax bill, with the total Village tax of $821.24 for the year. Approximately 76% of the budget dollars will be directed toward public safety and public works operations. The majority of the remaining percentage will be used to pay down debt and support General Government operations (2013 Property Tax Insert).
In 2014, the Village will continue with plans to reinforce core public safety services, while working to maintain a high level of performance across all Village service areas. With the current focus on public safety services, the pace of road reconstruction will remain slower, and the Village will continue with road maintenance programs during the spring and summer seasons. The table available as a PDF below shows projects to be completed during 2014 by funding source.
DEBT REDUCTION AND BORROWING
Over the past many years, the Village has followed a conservative borrowing schedule. While continuing to pay down General Government debt, the Village has plans to borrow funds during 2014. The projects are shown in the PDF below.
