Court Session Cancelled

Court Session Cancelled
Posted on 01/28/2019
The regular session of the Pleasant Prairie Municipal Court scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 30, 2019, is postponed due to projected dangerous weather including anticipated wind chill factors at approximately -40 degrees.

Anyone who has a Pleasant Prairie Municipal Court appearance scheduled for January 30 will automatically have their case continued to Wednesday, February 6, 2019, at 8:30 a.m.  If that date and time is inconvenient defendants can request an alternate court date by calling the Court Clerk at 262.694.8923 or e-mail at [email protected].

Defendants who wish to plead not guilty to a citation may, if a court appearance is not mandatory, e-mail their not guilty plea. The Court Clerk will then schedule a pretrial conference and notify the defendant of the date and time of a pretrial conference with the village prosecutor.

“A dangerous cold snap on the heels of a dangerous winter storm necessitates erring on the side of caution and public safety,” Municipal Judge Richard Ginkowski said, “Also, the Pleasant Prairie Police Department, which provides court security, is likely to be very busy dealing with weather-related emergencies.”

Ginkowski said that defendants who miss municipal court appearances are usually found guilty in absentia but sometimes a summons or arrest warrant can be issued. “Under the circumstances it didn’t seem appropriate to potentially punish people who intended to appear but understandably chose personal safety over coming to court,” Ginkowski added.
