Posted on 10/21/2019

On Monday, October 21, Village staff presented the proposed 2020 general government budget to the Village Board. The budget proposes to increase the tax levy from $12,306,203 in 2019 to $12,652,261 for 2020, an increase of $346,058. For a home in the Village valued at $237,200, this will translate into a $0.41 decrease in the Village portion of the property tax bill.

In 2020, the Village will receive about $1,014 of the total property tax payment for the median-valued home. The funds will be used to cover Village services such as fire and rescue, police, community development, road improvements, and snow plowing. The proposed 2020 budget includes the addition of two full-time firemedic positions, funding to increase part-time staffing in fire and rescue, two part-time Village employees, and replacement of emerald ash borer infected street trees. Proposed capital purchases include $1.8 million for road improvements, the addition of one ambulance, one firetruck, replacement of seven police vehicles, and $75,724 to replace mobile radios for fire and rescue.

A public hearing related to the 2020 budget is planned for Monday, November 18, at 6:00 p.m. The hearing will be held in the auditorium on the south side of Pleasant Prairie Village Hall, 9915 39th Avenue.
