During May, the Village Board awarded a contract for paving projects to Black Diamond Group of Oak Creek in the amount of $649,265. Seven paving projects had originally been slated for completion this year. Work on the projects began mid-June. Work on six of the projects has been completed, and one project has been held over for completion in the Spring of 2014. Following are the 2013 projects that were completed:
• 116th Street was repaved between 26th and 39th Avenues
• 89th Street was resurfaced
• 98th Avenue was resurfaced and the base layer was repaired
• An ultra-thin overlay was applied in a portion of the Prairie Ridge Subdivision
• The Ingram Park entrance drive and parking lot were prepared and paved
• A portion of the abandoned west I-94 frontage road and two culverts were removed
For most of these projects: the top layer of pavement was either pulverized or milled and removed; manhole and valve adjustments were made; new asphalt treatments were applied (the treatment varies based on the age and condition of the road and the purpose for applying the treatment - either preventing or repairing damage); roads were reshouldered; and lane markings were applied.
The seventh project, resurfacing at the 57th Avenue water tower site, was held over for completion. A cellular provider that leases space on the water tower is currently constructing a new equipment building at the location. Paving of the road was delayed in order to avoid any potential damage to a new road from heavy construction equipment.
The Village staff and board would like to thank residents for their patience and consideration this road work season.
