PLEASANT PRAIRIE HISTORICAL SOCIETY UPDATE
Former Dublin School Building Will Become the New Home of the Pleasant Prairie Historical Society
SOCIETY OVERVIEW
Near the end of 2010, the Pleasant Prairie Historical Society was formed as a volunteer-based, non-profit organization dedicated to collecting, preserving and exhibiting locally important archeological, historic and cultural materials, and providing educational opportunities to promote an appreciation of Pleasant Prairie's historical significance. The Society, now entering its third year, currently has about 90 members. Work is underway storing and cataloging many donated photos, artifacts, and stories.
DUBLIN SCHOOL DONATION
During its annual meeting in November 2012, the Pleasant Prairie Historical Society announced that it now has a new home. During December, the Elizabeth J. Riley Charitable Trust purchased the Dublin School building with the intent of allowing the Society to lease the space for $1 per year until the eventual anticipated transfer of the property to the Pleasant Prairie Historical Society. Plans for the Dublin School include an oral history center, small museum, and Society offices.
Volunteers have begun clean-up of the building. Following clean-up efforts a detailed Historical Structure Report will be completed. At that point, a visioning event will be held for society members to discuss potential uses for the building and Society members will begin planning for building updates and renovations.
The Historical Society extends its sincere thanks to the Elizabeth J. Riley Charitable Trust for helping provide a location for a future historical museum and Society gathering space. The Society also wishes to thank all of the volunteers who have helped in the clean-up of the Dublin School building or have donated cleaning supplies towards the effort.
