Household hazardous wastes are common products found in the home. People usually store these materials for a time and eventually discard the unwanted items and their containers. When household products are used according to label directions, most are not hazardous. They may become hazardous, however, if you use or store them improperly.
Environmental problems can also arise if you dispose of products improperly. DO NOT BURN, BURY or DUMP these products, (in a yard, toilet or down a storm sewer) and DO NOT MIX leftover products. Chemical containers should not be reused for any other purpose.
New in 2013, the Village will accept hazardous wastes at the Village Compost Site on the first Saturday of every month from April through December. When visiting the Compost Site, tell the attendant on duty that you have hazardous waste to dispose of. The attendant will direct you to the appropriate location at the site.
You may bring any products that say: Caution, Combustible, Corrosive, Danger, Flammable, Pesticide, Poison, Reactive, Toxic or Warning. We will recycle or dispose of it in an environmentally safe manner. We are not able to accept: biological material or medical wastes, commercial waste, propane cylinders, explosives, radioactive materials, or latex paint (not considered hazardous).
