Area Veterans and community organizations, who have joined together to bring The Moving Wall to Pleasant Prairie this September, are seeking family members and friends of the 35 Kenosha County soldiers whose names are displayed on the memorial. The Moving Wall is the half-size replica of the Washington, D.C. Vietnam Veterans Memorial. It was conceived of and built by Vietnam Veterans as a remembrance and healing tool for all those people who may never have a chance to visit the Memorial in Washington, D.C.
The Moving Wall will be displayed inside Prairie Springs Park in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin from September 12 through September 16. The committee would like to invite family members and friends of those soldiers whose names are displayed on The Moving Wall to a Remembrance Ceremony that will take place on Saturday, September 14 at 1:00 p.m. Names of each of the 35 Kenosha County soldiers will be read aloud during the ceremony.
A procession of motorcycles and military vehicles will escort The Moving Wall from the Radisson of Pleasant Prairie around Lake Andrea (inside Prairie Springs Park) to the main set-up area between 8:30 and 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 12. The public is invited to assemble around Lake Andrea to watch the procession. An Opening Ceremony for the memorial will take place inside Prairie Springs Park on Thursday, September 12 at 6:00 p.m.; the Remembrance Ceremony will take place on Saturday, September 14 at 1:00 p.m.; and a Closing Ceremony will take place on Monday, September 16 at 1:00 p.m.
The Moving Wall has been touring the country since 1984. Access to The Moving Wall during its visit to Pleasant Prairie will be available on a 24-hour basis. Access is free and open to all who wish to visit.
