Municipal Court

We’re online to save you time! Some in-person court hearings resumed June 1, 2021 but most of the time you can skip the trip and handle your court matter virtually or on line. Here’s what you can do online without coming to court (click on the blue option below):

- I want to
plead not guilty to my citation.
- I want to
plead guilty or no contest to my citation. (You’ll be able to explain mitigating circumstances.)
- I want to
pay my citation.
- I want to ask for
more time to pay my citation.
- I want to
reschedulemy court appearance.
- I
missed my court date and want to reopen my case.
- I want the court to
dismiss my citation for no proof of insurance or failure to show my driver’s license to the officer because I had insurance and a valid driver’s license.

If your situation isn’t in the above list or you’d like to appear virtually before the judge at the time of your scheduled appearance,
click here. You may also appear by phone. Call 312-626-6799 and enter meeting code 810 975 6697.

If your citation says a court appearance is mandatory then you must appear. You may appear in person, virtually via Zoom, or by phone. You must also appear at the time and date on your citation if you haven’t paid it or made a written or online plea of not guilty, guilty or no contest before your scheduled court date. The good news is that you can handle most court matters online without a court appearance.

WELCOME TO YOUR COURT

Welcome to the Pleasant Prairie Municipal Court, a community-based justice alternative. The Court belongs to you, the people. I am honored to have been elected to preside over it.

The Municipal Court has exclusive jurisdiction over all alleged violations of village ordinances such as traffic offenses (including first offense operating under the influence), zoning violations and certain noncriminal violations that parallel the Criminal Code (such as retail theft or disorderly conduct) whether committed by adults or juveniles. Except for juvenile hearings, all court proceedings are open to the public and you are encouraged to attend.

Hopefully the answers to the “frequently asked questions” posted here are helpful. If not, please feel free to contact us (but note that we cannot give legal advice). And please remember the most important thing: DO NOT IGNORE YOUR CITATION! The WORST thing you can do is ignore a citation or fail to make a scheduled court appearance. If you can’t afford to pay a ticket you should come to court as scheduled and we will try to work with you.

We welcome the opportunity to serve you.
