Members of Pleasant Prairie Fire & Rescue would like to publicly thank all those that helped to “Fill-the-Boot” during the 2009 Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) fundraiser this past weekend. Pleasant Prairie Fire & Rescue collected a total of $17,729.14 in loose change and dollars over the two-day campaign. During last year's Fill-the-Boot campaign, Pleasant Prairie firefighters collected a total of $10,018.08.
On September 5 and 6, 29 full- and part-time members of the department collected donations from motorists passing through two intersections, 93rd Street and 39th Avenue and 75th Street and 88th Avenue. “Our presence was well received by the traveling public,” commented Pleasant Prairie Fire & Rescue Chief Paul Guilbert Jr. “Our personnel were very impressed with the overwhelming generosity of the motorists they met for a very brief moment. We cannot thank those people enough for their generosity.”
Fill-the-Boot is an annual tradition for firefighters across the country. The International Association of Firefighters has been a national sponsor of the MDA since 1954. Pleasant Prairie has plans to Fill-the-Boot again during next year's campaign.
