A portion of path surrounding Lake Andrea in Prairie Springs Park will be rerouted for safety reasons as of Tuesday, June 23. In response to an upcoming construction project at LakeView RecPlex, a portion of the path to the southwest and west of the facility is slated to close. A detour route directing path traffic around the east side of the facility has been created. Signage will direct users of the path through the detour area. The detour will remain in effect until the completion of the construction project.
RecPlex will begin construction of a new 50-meter lap pool shortly thereafter. The addition will be constructed on the west side of the building, between the current indoor aquatic center and Lake Andrea. A portion of the path that is currently located in the construction area will be moved closer to the lake and reinforced with a structural retaining wall. This will create a railed, perch-style area overlooking Lake Andrea.
"The temporary detour is meant to protect park visitors from potential hazards near the construction area," commented John Steinbrink Jr., Director of Public Works for the Village. "A new section of sidewalk was added along the east side of the building to accommodate path traffic, though for a short stretch the traffic will be detoured onto Terwall Terrace." Construction of the new 50-meter pool is expected to be complete during the spring of 2010.
