Construction work on I-94 is slated to begin this spring and summer. Extensive work will be completed on I-94 from the state line, north through Milwaukee County, to enable the freeway system to accommodate safer automobile travel for commuters, commerce and tourism. Preliminary plans for work on and near I-94 this year are highlighted below.

WEST I-94 FRONTAGE ROAD
The continued reconstruction, by the Village, of the west frontage road, from Highway Q to just south of Highway C, is expected to pick up again in June. During the initial phase of the project, the west frontage road will remain open for traffic. In mid-August, the road will then be closed to facilitate further work and the road¡¦s reconnection to Highway C, by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT).

I-94 FROM STATE LINE NORTH
Beginning mid-May, WisDOT will construct improvements on I-94 from the state line to the north for 2.5 miles. Some work will take place at the Highway 165 interchange. I-94 will remain open to traffic during this time.

HIGHWAY C INTERCHANGE
Later this spring, WisDOT will begin improvements at County Highway C and the east and west frontage roads. The interstate will be physically raised to accommodate taller traffic under the overpass and to raise the interchange out of the 100-year floodplain. Once this project begins, the east frontage road north of Highway 165 will be closed until roughly mid-August.

SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS
As part of WisDOT¡¦s planning for the project, the department has developed an I-94 N-S Incident/Crisis Communications Plan. The plan will help local agencies and emergency responders prepare to manage incidents that may occur during the construction process.
