During spring of 2009, work will begin on the reconstruction of 85th Street between Cooper Road and 63rd Avenue. In late 2008, a public informational meeting was held regarding proposed plans for the project, and input from residents was gathered. Engineering design for the project is currently under way and will incorporate feedback from those who live in the area.

Construction of the roadway is scheduled to begin this spring and will include: widening the road to match profiles to both the east and west; the installation of storm sewer; the installation of curb and gutter; and the planting of street trees and landscaping. In addition, traffic signals, similar to those at 80th Street and Cooper Road, will be installed at the intersection of 85th Street and Cooper. No additional property will need to be acquired to complete the project, as work will take place within the existing right-of-way.

Planners anticipate that the project will be completed during the fall of 2009, barring any unforeseen circumstances. Crispell-Snyder of Lake Geneva is the engineering firm coordinating the project design and reconstruction. The Village has received a Local Roads Improvement Grant from the State to cover $1.2 million of the costs related to the project. The entire cost of the roadway reconstruction is estimated at $2.4 million. The remaining funds will come from the Capital Project Fund.
