Effective immediately, the Temporary Burn Ban put into effect on June 14, 2021, for the Village of Pleasant Prairie has been lifted. Burning practices within the Village have reverted to their normal status. City and County Fire Chiefs discussed the situation and determined the immediate threat from the severe drought conditions has passed. Recent weather provided enough precipitation over the past several days to improve conditions for controlled burning.
Village residents who hold a valid Open Burning Permit may now utilize them but should first review and follow the process outlined on the reverse side of the permit. It is also highly recommended that all Village of Pleasant Prairie residents check Open Burning Ordinance 180-13 before burning or using a fire pit to ensure its use follows the outlined ordinance. Local ordinances can be found
here.
Generally speaking, cooking grills and manufactured fire pits, as defined in the ordinance, do not require a burn permit. Burning items such as leaves, construction material, mattresses, furniture, garbage, and using burn barrels are prohibited. Starting fires utilizing accelerants such as gasoline or similar products is also prohibited.
"The Village Fire & Rescue Department appreciates the extra caution the community used during the extremely dry weather," said Chief of Fire & Rescue Craig Roepke. "With the burn ban lifted, we ask that residents remain safe, be attentive, and monitor fire use with a water or extinguishment source nearby."
