On Thursday, December 23, at approximately 8:57 a.m., Pleasant Prairie Police responded to the report of two vehicles colliding in the 11800 block of State Trunk Highway 31 (Green Bay Road). The vehicles included a semi-truck carrying a loaded trailer and a 2014 Toyota sedan. Both vehicles were traveling northbound on Green Bay Road when the collision occurred.
The accident resulted in heavy damage to the sedan, which a 47-year-old female driver from Illinois operated. An initial investigation indicated the semi-truck, which a 31-year-old male from Illinois drove, traveled between 0 and 10 mph when the crash occurred. The portion of Green Bay Road has a 55 mph speed limit. The semi driver cited that the semi’s slow speeds were due to another slow-moving vehicle.
The Toyota sedan approached the semi from the rear at highway speeds and failed to notice the slow-moving rate of the semi. As a result, the sedan collided with the back of the semi-trailer, causing heavy damage to the sedan. The sedan driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries, was transported to a local hospital for treatment, and was cited for failure to maintain control of the vehicle. The driver of the semi did not report any injuries from the collision.
Wisconsin State Patrol assisted Pleasant Prairie Police in inspecting the semi’s logbook and vehicle. During the investigation and scene clean-up, northbound lanes on Green Bay Road were closed for approximately one hour.
