In response to a high demand for infant care, LakeView RecPlex is proposing the addition of a new infant care program for 2009. The new program, referred to as Baby U, is proposing to accommodate up to 16 infants and toddlers, with infants ranging in age from six weeks to 12 months and toddlers ranging in age from 12 to 24 months. If approved by the Village Board as part of the 2009 RecPlex budget, Baby U could be up and running by February of 2009 and would operate from a dedicated space on the south end of the RecPlex parking lot, which was formerly a daytime restaurant and coffee shop.
RecPlex began offering a preschool program in 2003. Since that time, the program has experienced consistent growth, and the desire for infant care has been expressed on an ongoing basis. PreSchool U at RecPlex currently serves 2-, 3-, and 4-year old students. Classes are offered year-round on a full- or part-time basis and offer a broad, age appropriate curriculum that includes: structured and free play times, swimming, ice skating, music, art, Spanish, colors, shapes, numbers, letters, patterns, science and math.
"Baby U would also offer an age appropriate curriculum which will incorporate your baby's basic need to be held, fed, changed and loved," commented Melissa Santell, Preschool Coordinator for Pleasant Prairie. "Through play, interaction, music and touch, we'll help them develop fine and gross motor skills. When they're ready, we'll be there to help with potty training. Our goal is to meet children and their parents at their own level of development when they enter the program and to help them as far along as we can."
