On August 4, 2008, a contract was awarded to the Wanasek Corporation of Burlington for work to replace the Barnes Creek Bridge in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin. Work is scheduled to begin on August 11, with the removal of the existing bridge. The bridge is expected to be passable for school bus and emergency traffic by the end of August. All work on the bridge is expected to be complete by the end of September. The road is expected to be open for residential traffic at that time.

The existing bridge structure, though still sound, is in poor condition and is continuing to deteriorate. Cracks and rust have been identified on the superstructure, in addition to numerous pop-outs in all four wingwalls. "The Village has chosen to restore the bridge now in order to avoid an emergency replacement later," commented John Steinbrink Jr., Superintendent of Public Works for Pleasant Prairie.

The Barnes Creek Bridge is located on Lakeshore Drive between 96th and 98th Streets. Lakeshore Drive will be closed on either side of the bridge at this location during restoration. Alternate routes for traffic in the area have been identified, and multiple signs alerting the public to the construction detour have been posted. Those in the area can expect driveways to remain open during construction.
