The Village Board, during a June 2 meeting, approved the award of contracts for two road construction projects. A contract was awarded to Super Excavators, Inc. of Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin in the amount of $5,975,452 for work to be completed west of Interstate 94 and south of County Highway Q in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin. A separate contract for the extension of 80th Street in the Village was awarded to Reesman's Excavating & Grading, Inc. of Burlington, Wisconsin in the amount of $1,435,787.
Work west of I-94 will include: the realignment and reconstruction of the west frontage road south of Highway Q; the widening of County Highway Q to four lanes west to the Village limits; and the construction of water, sewer, storm water and roadway infrastructure on property adjacent to the interstate owned by the Village's Community Development Authority. Work is being completed to prepare the area to accommodate future commercial traffic. Property located west of the realigned frontage road will be the future home of Uline's new corporate headquarters and distribution facility. Uline is an international shipping supply company currently headquartered in Waukegan, Illinois. Jockey International also owns land in the area.
As part of the second project, 80th Street in the Village of Pleasant Prairie will be extended as an arterial roadway, offering an additional connection point between the east and west sides of the Village on its northern edge. The project will relieve heavier traffic traveling a nearby residential road to the south. In addition to the installation of roadway: a traffic signal will be installed at the intersection of Cooper Road and 80th Street; sidewalks and lighting will be added; water main, sanitary sewer and storm sewer improvements will be installed; and street trees will be planted.
Sealed bids were accepted for each project. Three were received for the frontage road realignment, and six were received for the 80th Street extension. Sealed bids were opened publicly and read aloud respectively on May 29 and May 28. Super Excavators and Reesman's had both submitted the lowest bid for their respective projects.
