During a Monday evening meeting, the Pleasant Prairie Village Board will consider the award of contract for capital purchases approved as part of the 2008 budget. Contracts being considered at tonight's meeting are for: the purchase of a single axle chassis and snowplow equipment for $139,066; the installation of electricity and lighting for ballfields inside Prairie Springs Park for $232,150; and the purchase of a wide area lawn mower for $30,108.
The purchase of the single axle chassis and snowplow equipment package was included in the 2008 budget to replace twenty year old plow truck that is used year round for snow plowing and construction related projects. The Pleasant Prairie Public Works Department sought bids for the projects in early January, and sealed bids were opened on January 16. "The department is recommending the purchase of a chassis with an improved exhaust system, offering lower emissions, to lessen our impact on the environment," commented Superintendent of Public Works, John Steinbrink, Jr. "We're also aiming for less of an impact on our downtime and budgeted dollars too, by choosing a company with a history of reliable service and parts availability."
If the award of contract is approved, the department expects to take delivery of the new plow truck in the fall of 2008. With approval, the department also anticipates that it will have the wide are lawn mower in time to begin the 2008 spring mowing season; and by contract, the ballfield electricity and lighting should be operational by the end of March. Steinbrink added, "Our community baseball program runs from March through November and has grown tremendously. The lighting on the north side of the park will help accommodate the program's growth and provide players a more convenient and safe place to practice and play." Each of the items above will be considered during the Monday, January 21st Village Board meeting. The meeting will be held at 6:30pm in the Village Hall Auditorium, 9915 39th Avenue, Pleasant Prairie.
