The Village of Pleasant Prairie Fire & Rescue Department employs full-time and part-time staff.

Full-Time
Applications for full-time positions are taken when a posting is announced. Typically, the eligibly list is active for one year. The requirements for full-time Firemedic position are:
- NFPA Firefighter I (eligible for reciprocity to WI FF I)
- NFPA Firefighter II (within the probationary period)
- WI Paramedic or NREMT-P (eligible for WI licensure)
- Valid driver’s license
- High school diploma/GED
- Valid CPAT no less than one year old
Part-Time
The requirements for part-time employment are similar as those for full-time employment. Part-time employees are required to be at minimum a WI licensed EMT-Basic and a WI Firefighter I prior to employment. Part-time hours are not guaranteed and may vary from week to week depending on staffing requirements. Typically, part-time positions are allotted no more than 28 hours per week, Monday - Sunday. Part-time members are expected to work every week (not casually) and are expected to attend department trainings. The part-time position also has a one year probationary period.
Candidate Physical Ability Test or "CPAT" is conducted and issued by a licensed agency. CPAT was developed after years of research and input from an international committee comprised of IAFF and IAFC members. During the entire test the candidate must wear a 50 lb. weighted vest (simulating the weight of a fire fighters protective clothing and equipment). The test requires firefighter candidates to engage in the following activities:
- Stair climb
- Ladder raise & extension
- Hose Drag
- Equipment Carry
- Forcible entry
- Search
- Rescue Drag
- Ceiling breach & pull
