As of December 1, 2016 an annual Business License for all home based and non-home based businesses in Pleasant Prairie is required pursuant to
Article VII of Chapter 420 in the Village Municipal Code.
This article is not a regulation of occupation but rather to verify locations of active business operations, to obtain emergency contact information in order to notify and provide efficient public safety services to the business, to support economic development activities and to verify compliance with the site and operational zoning regulations of the Village.
The information gathered from the business license application and the annual renewal is essential to performing the community’s public safety and public works related services. The information obtained from the business license application and annual renewals is also important to the community for the purposes of its overall economic development business attraction and retention strategy insofar as the Village will be able to track and maintain an accurate listing of all active businesses, relevant contact information, employment counts and anticipated employment growth projections on an annual basis.

2024/2025 RENEWAL OF BUSINESS LICESNSES ARE NOW AVAILABLE TO BE COMPLETED ONLINE through the
Village’s new software, SmartGov by Granicus. Our new software will allow existing businesses to renew their business license and pay the renewal fee online
through the Village’s new portal.
Renewal notices were mailed on December 6, 2024 to all existing businesses in the Village with active business
licenses to inform them of this new renewal process. Business licenses that were not renewed for 2024 will be
renewed as part of the 2025 renewal process.
Specific instructions to activate your account and to renew your license online through the new portal can be found

is found in these specific instructions.
To activate your online account, you will need to use the email address and access code that is currently linked to your account that was provided to you in the December 6, 2024 renewal notice.
If you choose not to use the online renewal process, then the appropriate business license renewal application shall be completed and submitted with the required renewal fee via mail or in person at the Village Hall.

Your 2024/2025 business license shall be renewed by January 15, 2025. If your business license is not renewed by January 15 you will be assessed an additional $10 late fee (per license). All business licenses not renewed by March 1 may be issued municipal citations.
BUSINESS LICENSE FEES:
Initial application fee: $25 per business per site/$10 per non-profit business* per site
Annual renewal application fee:
$25 per business per site/$10 per non-profit business* per site
Annual renewal late fee: If the business fails to renew the license by January 15 of each year, then a late fee of $10 will be assessed to the applicant.
*The Village may require additional information for verification of any non-profit status.
(Note: A service fee will be charged to renewal your license online: 3.15%, minimum of $2.95 for credit card or
$1.00 for E-check transactions.)
Beginning in November 2025 renewal notices are intended to be system generated on November 15 of each year for you to renew your license(s) for the following year. NOTE: All emails generated from the SmartGov software will be sent from the email address “[email protected]”
