NAMES ANNOUNCED FOR PARKLANDS ALONG THE LAKE MICHIGAN SHORELINE IN PLEASANT PRAIRIE
During April and May, Village staff shared a brief history of the lakeshore area in Pleasant Prairie and sought public input regarding the naming of four public parklands along the Lake Michigan shoreline. During a meeting in early June, the Park Commission considered the input provided and made recommendations to the Village Board regarding names for five parkland areas, encompassing an additional portion of land south of 116th Street.
Names for the five parkland areas proposed by the Park Commission were:
- Edithton Beach - for the northern most pedestrian parkland,
- Lakeshore Park - for the second parkland area from the north,
- Prairie Shores Beach - for the largest, most popular parkland area,
- Chiwaukee View - for a pedestrian parkland just north of 116th Street, and
- Phil Sander Park - for a pedestrian parkland just south of 116th Street.
On Monday, June 20, the Village Board concurred with the recommendation of the Park Commission and approved the names as proposed. Signage will now be placed at each of the public parkland areas helping the public and residents in the area to easily identify the public access points to Lake Michigan. The signage will also help Village staff address parking and mischief complaints in the area more efficiently. The Village Board, Park Commission, and staff would like to thank all those who took the time to provide input regarding the parklands.
