At 4:41 p.m. this afternoon, a 19-year-old male swimmer was reported unresponsive while swimming near the shore at Lake Andrea in Prairie Springs Park. Bystanders retrieved him and brought him to shore. Pleasant Prairie Fire & Rescue and Police departments responded to the north side of the lake. Bystanders on the scene provided details about the incident.
Pleasant Prairie Fire & Rescue arrived at 4:44 p.m. and initiated advanced lifesaving efforts. Paramedics were able to establish a pulse and blood pressure, but the swimmer remained unresponsive. He was transported to a local hospital, where he continues to receive medical care. The patient's name has not been released.
As standard protocol, the Kenosha County Dive Team and Pleasant Prairie’s boat and water assets responded to the incident. These resources were not needed and were recalled as the swimmer was no longer in the water. Paris Fire & Rescue also responded as a change-of-quarters and provided coverage for other area calls during this incident.
It was initially reported that this incident occurred within the RecPlex facility, which was incorrect.
