11/06/2007 | Life Saving Award Presented to Pleasant Prairie Police Officer Peter Jung
During a November 5 meeting of the Pleasant Prairie Village Board, Officer Peter Jung of the Pleasant Prairie Police Department was presented with the department's Life Saving Award. The award is presented to members of the department who "clearly and directly" save a life or prevent bodily harm that would have resulted in a death. Officer Jung received the award in response to a call he responded to in early August.
Officer Jung was dispatched to a call with Pleasant Prairie Fire and Rescue for a 65-year old diabetic patient who was unconscious. Officer Jung arrived first on scene and was directed by the victim's wife to a non-breathing and pulse-less male. Officer Jung reacted immediately and, based on his training, administered shocks from an automatic external defibrillator. Immediately following use of the defibrillator, Officer Jung performed CPR until paramedics arrived on scene and transported the patient to the hospital. The patient survived for several days in the hospital before yielding to his illness.
Through his immediate response, Officer Jung resuscitated a non-breathing and pulse-less patient. He extended the life of this man and provided his family with additional time with their loved one. The Village of Pleasant Prairie and the entire Pleasant Prairie Police Department wish to extend sincere congratulations to Officer Jung for his heroic response and to thank him for his dedication in service. Pleasant Prairie Chief of Police, Brian Wagner, added, "Our community is indeed fortunate to have an officer of your ability and dedication in its service."
