During a recent meeting, the Pleasant Prairie Village Board approved a change expanding the acceptable hours of operation for snow blowers. Prior to the change, the use of snow blowers was prohibited between the hours of 10:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. under a chapter of the code related to "Loud and Unnecessary Noise." The change outlines that snow blowers are now an exception to the rule, and as a result, there are no longer restrictions on the hours they may be operated.
Board discussion of the topic centered around the varying work schedules of residents in the Village and their need to be able to exit their driveway to attend work. The chapter (250) still limits "the use of any power lawn mower, chain saw or the like between the hours of 10:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m." It does, however, allow for the use of theses pieces of equipment during emergency situations (an example being a generator during a power failure).
"The change now allows for snow blowers to be operated whenever there is a reasonable need," commented Mike Pollocoff, Village Administrator. "It ensures that residents with late night or early morning work hours will not be penalized or put in a difficult situation because of their need to clear snow from their property." The ordinance to make the amendment was adopted during a special meeting of the Village Board on Wednesday, December 19.
