Improvements in the area of Cooper Road and 80th Street have already begun. The improvements are being made as part of the extension of 80th Street from Cooper Road west to 57th Avenue. The project will include the installation of storm sewer, water main, sanitary sewer, and roadway. The 80th Street extension will also include the installation of street lighting, sidewalk, curb and gutter.
The reconstruction of the intersection at Cooper Road and 80th Street will include the installation of traffic signals with turn lanes to accommodate a better flow of traffic through the intersection. The intersection work is expected to be complete by August 29, 2008. It is anticipated that work on the entire 80th Street portion of the project will be complete near the end of October, with the landscape restoration surrounding the work area and final layer of asphalt.
Drivers in the area can expect delays during construction hours on Cooper Road in the 80th Street area. At least one lane will remain open at all times. Two lanes will be open at the end of the workday, weekends and holidays. The road is closed on 80th Street east of Cooper Road and will remain closed until work is completed which is expected to last approximately until mid to late August.
The estimated completion dates are subject to change based on any unforeseen circumstances and weather conditions.
