On Sunday, March 7 and Sunday, April 18, RecPlex, in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin, will host the second and third indoor triathlons of the 2010 three-race series. Athletes, ages eight through adult, are invited to take part in each these events. RecPlex hosted the first indoor triathlon of the 2010 series on January 31; forty-five athletes participated.
The March race will consist of a 10-minute indoor swim, 20-minute spin bike ride, and a 15-minute treadmill run. The April race will be an indoor/outdoor race, weather permitting, and will consist of a 400-yard pool swim, an 8-mile bike ride on spin bikes, and a 2.3-mile run along the shores of Lake Andrea, inside Prairie Springs Park. Awards are presented for each of the events to the overall male and female winner, and a finisher's medal will be presented to each participant.
"An indoor triathlon is a great motivational tool for triathletes during the off season and a great way to assess your fitness level in preparation for the outdoor triathlon season," explained Lyn Boehm, Programs Director at RecPlex. "Participants really love this format and find it to be a great opportunity to compete athletically and have a fun time." RecPlex has been hosting indoor triathlons since 2005. Registration is now underway for both races. The registration fee for the indoor triathlon is $45. RecPlex members receive a $10 discount. Registration includes an event t-shirt, goodie bag, and post-race refreshments.
