Just past 12:30 in the afternoon on Monday, February 8, a Union Pacific train partially derailed in the Village just north of Bain Station Road. Twenty-four of 113 cars came off of the tracks. Union Pacific reported that twenty of the train cars were empty, while four were carrying plywood, wheat and fertilizer. No injuries were reported as a result of the derailment.

Upon receiving the call, Pleasant Prairie Police and Fire & Rescue Departments responded to the scene of the derailment. Once on scene, the first priority of emergency responders was to assess the situation to determine potential impact on the safety of residents. This assessment determines the course of action responders will take. In this case, the assessment revealed that the derailed cars did not pose a hazard to the public. Union Pacific crews have repaired the railway and have worked to remove the derailed train cars.
