On Monday, June 14, the Pleasant Prairie Plan Commission approved Site and Operational Plans for a new GFS (Gordon Food Service) Marketplace. Gordon Food Service has plans to build a retail market southwest of the intersection at Highway 50 and Green Bay Road, near Chili's and Johnson Bank. GFS Marketplace stores serve retail and small business customers and carry Gordon Food Service products at wholesale prices. The stores are open to the public and do not require a membership fee.
Plans call for an 11,353 square foot building to be built on 3.15 acres of land. The GFS Marketplace parking lot will have 97 spaces and will continue to accommodate overflow parking for Chili's. "We are excited that Gordon Food Service will be bringing their retail store to the community," remarked Jean Werbie-Harris, Community Development Director for Pleasant Prairie. "The products and services available through their marketplace will offer residents and area businesses another alternative for their food-related needs." Gordon Food Service plans to begin construction later this year. The GFS Marketplace is expected to open in Pleasant Prairie during 2011.
