On Thursday, September 9, Pleasant Prairie Police will begin to distribute sets of Green Bay Packer cards to area youth. The cards feature Coach Mike McCarthy and the 2010 players. "The cards are a way for area youth to get to know the police officers in their community," explained Brian Wagner, Chief of Police in Pleasant Prairie. "Children are encouraged to approach Pleasant Prairie Officers and ask for a set of cards. It's a great way for the kids in our community to get to know us."
Officers will have a limited number of sets available, 500 in total, and will begin distributing them at the start of the 2010 NFL season while on patrol in Pleasant Prairie. The department has distributed other trading cards in the past. "This outreach has always been well received," added Wagner. "The officers love it; the kids love it; and the parents enjoy it too."
In addition to handing out collectible cards, the department performs other types of outreach to youth throughout the year. These include educational programs in Pleasant Prairie Schools and interacting with youth at family events in Pleasant Prairie. In addition, the Pleasant Prairie Professional Police Association, in conjunction with the Fire & Rescue Association, runs a Shop With a Cop/Firefighter program for youth in Pleasant Prairie each holiday season.
