Members of Pleasant Prairie Fire & Rescue would like to publicly thank all those who helped "Fill-the-Boot" during the 2012 Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) fundraiser between August 31 and September 2. This year, Pleasant Prairie Fire & Rescue collected a total of $21,901. The department collected $17,060 during 2011; $20,946 during 2010; $17,729 during 2009; and $10,018 during 2008.
"Thanks to the generosity of the community over the past five years, members of Pleasant Prairie Fire & Rescue have been able to help support the MDA's efforts to conquer neuromuscular disease," explained Pleasant Prairie Fire & Rescue Chief Doug McElmury. "Since the start, we've been overwhelmed by the generosity of the motorists we've met, and we can't thank them enough for supporting this annual fundraising campaign."
Fill-the-Boot is an annual tradition for firefighters across the country. The International Association of Firefighters has been a national sponsor of the MDA since 1954. This is the Pleasant Prairie's fifth year participating in the campaign. The department has plans to participate in the MDA's Fill-the-Boot fundraiser during next year's campaign.
