WisDOT, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, will soon begin a resurfacing project on State Highway 50 between I94 and 43rd Avenue. Work is expected to begin in June and to be completed during September. Work will generally begin at the west end of the project and proceed east. The project will take place in two stages.
During the first stage, work will focus on reconstructing intersections, medians, curb and gutter, and sidewalks. During the second stage, work will focus on the milling and removal of the top layers of pavement, patching the road base, replacing asphalt pavement, placing signage, and applying pavement markings.
The purpose of the resurfacing project is to extend the life of the roadway until it is reconstructed by WisDOT between 2017 and 2019. The resurfacing project is primarily funded by state and federal dollars, however, local municipalities have contributed funds for adjusting utilities during the project. The state recently awarded the resurfacing contract for the work to Payne & Dolan, Inc. of Waukesha. Throughout the project, the contractor will work to maintain one or two open lanes for traffic in each direction, however, a full closure of 75th Street near the railroad crossing at 52nd Avenue may be necessary during the first stage of the project. The closure could last five days. If a closure is necessary, signage would be placed at the location three days in advance.
Prior to the start of the project, during the month of May, WisDOT has plans to host a Public Information Meeting to share a project schedule and additional details related to the work. Information about the Public Information Meeting will be released to the public through local and state news media as the date approaches. Letters will also be sent to property owners adjacent to the project area.
