FIREARM AND WEAPON ORDINANCE UPDATED RELATING TO HUNTING AND TRAPPING ON VILLAGE OWNED PROPERTY
During September, a Village ordinance related to firearm and weapon regulations (Ord. No. 12-31, Chapter 250-3) was amended to clarify that hunting and/or trapping is prohibited on Village owned property.
Due to current budgetary factors, the Village is unable to provide staff to adequately oversee and manage hunting and trapping on Village owned property. Lacking the staff to ensure the safe and orderly management of hunting and/or trapping, the Village found it prudent to prohibit hunting and trapping on Village owned land altogether, until at some point in the future when funding becomes available to properly oversee the endeavor.
The ordinance does allow for hunting on private lands within the Village provided that all related State statutes and rules are followed and provided that the express permission of the property owner or land occupant is granted. (The full ordinance is available for review clicking here.) The Village thanks all residents for their cooperation and their consideration for the safety of themselves and others in this matter.
