RECYCLING OPTIONS FOR PLASTIC BAGS
With the new recycling contract approved this August, plastic bags are now listed as an item that cannot be recycled through your Village recycling cart. The recycling provider explained that there is a coating on the bags that creates a potential contaminant through conventional recycling operations.
As an alternative to placing plastic bags in your garbage, some grocers will collect plastic shopping bags for delivery to a specialized recycling provider. Shoppers can inquire with your local supermarket to see if they will accept used plastic bags for recycling.
An alternative option is to carry reusable shopping bags, which are gaining in popularity and are available at most grocers and other retail outlets.
