Free Walking and Gardening Group Begins Meeting in May...the Walk, Grow & Sow group will meet on Monday evenings from 6:00 to 8:00 beginning this May...
All are invited to participate in a new walking and gardening group to learn how to plant a self-sustaining home organic garden. The group will meet at RecPlex on Monday evenings at 6:00 and walk to the Learning Garden on the north side of Lake Andrea. The group will learn how to incorporate exercise into daily activities and participate in hands on instruction growing vegetables and herbs.
Participants in Walk, Grow & Sow will cultivate cool season "salad garden" of lettuce, spinach, radishes, onions, cilantro, kale and broccoli. Some of the topics to be covered include the importance of soil, proper watering, the use of organic fertilizers, pest control and composting. The class will also cover flower gardening; herbs for tea, medicinal and culinary use; edible flowers; gardening in containers; and organic lawn care. Each session will conclude with a walk back to RecPlex.
There is no cost for participation, however, pre-registration is required. Those interested can register at the Guest Services or Fitness desks inside RecPlex at 9900 Terwall Terrace or by calling 262.925.6742 or 262.947.0437.
Walk, Grow & Sow is open to all ages. Children must be accompanied and supervised by an adult. Participants should wear walking shoes and bring a trowel and gloves. The group will meet in the RecPlex lobby near the round tables.
