The public is invited to the RecPlex Ice Arena on Saturday, February 4 for Skatefest beginning at 11:45 a.m. During Skatefest, families can enjoy free admission to a public skate from 11:45 a.m. until 1:15 p.m. and free group lessons. Skate rentals will be available, if needed, for a $3 fee. A free figure skating exhibition will be held, following the other activities, at 1:30 p.m. Skatefest is being held in honor of National Skating Month.
Skatefest was initiated as an introduction to the US Figure Skating Basic Skills Programs offered at RecPlex and as a way for parents to learn if their children have an interest in the sport of figure skating prior to registering for the program. Brian Luburich, Operations Director at the RecPlex Ice Arena explained, "Skatefest is a great way for kids to discover skating in a fun and encouraging environment. Whether aiming for Olympic fame or skating for fun, Skatefest is a great way to get started!" Concessions will be available for purchase throughout the event.
