On Monday, September 22, the Pleasant Prairie Plan Commission considered and approved Final Site and Operational Plans for Costco Wholesale Corporation. The Plan Commission had conditionally approved Preliminary Site and Operational Plans for the company on July 28.
Costco plans to construct a warehouse retail store and gas station on approximately 17.5 acres in the Prairie Ridge Development. The 153,962 square foot store and 12-pump gas station will be built on vacant land located northwest of 91st Street and Prairie Ridge Boulevard surrounding an existing hotel. Costco’s proposed hours of business will be Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. until 8:30 p.m.; Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.; and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. The gas station will be open from 6:30 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. daily.
Approximately 645 daily automobile trips both to and from the location are anticipated during peak weekend hours. Eight to ten truck trips are expected per day (Monday through Saturday) for deliveries. Deliveries will take place between 6:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. Extensive berming and landscaping will be installed to make the property appealing for adjacent residents and businesses. Design of the facility will incorporate sustainable practices and will include various aesthetic features that will help to visually integrate the facility with the surrounding development. Costco stores sell a variety of products including groceries, candy, appliances, electronics, and more. The new store will employ approximately 75 full-time and 75 part-time positions. Costco’s average hourly wage across the United States is $20.30.
