On June 19 through June 22, sixteen members of the Pleasant Prairie Patriots Swim Team competed in a premier invite in The Woodlands, Texas. The invite hosted some of the best swimmers in the world.
Top finishers for the Patriots included: Shelby Haines - 5th place 50m backstroke, 9th place 100m backstroke, 14th place 50m butterfly, 16th place 200m backstroke; Malcolm Andrew - 29th place 50m butterfly; Jared Chatterton - 22nd place 50m backstroke; Tyler Chatterton - 23rd place 50m backstroke, 23rd place 100 breaststroke, 28th place 200m breaststroke; Collin DuChene - 27th place 800m freestyle, 15th place 50m backstroke, 23rd place 100m backstroke, 27th place 1500m freestyle, 23rd place 50m butterfly, 24th place 200m backstroke; Lexie DuChene - 10th place 50m backstroke, 28th place 200m Individual Medley, 15th place 100m backstroke, 22nd place 400m Individual Medley, 23rd place 200m backstroke; Izzy Sonday - 29th place 1500m freestyle, 27th place 800m freestyle; and Malynn Tarczewski - 31st place 50m breaststroke.
While participating in the invite, Patriot swimmers witnessed the breaking of two world records. In the first race of the meet, Katie Ledecky of Nations Capitol Swim Club broke the world record in the 1500m freestyle. Patriots’ swimmers Izzy Sonday and Tess Jaske both participated in this race. The second world record fell on the final day of competition as Katie Ledecky broke the world record in the 800m freestyle. Izzy Sonday and Tess Jaske also competed in this race.
Other Patriots’ swimmers who competed in the senior invite include: Mackenzie Aldrich, Dominic Allard, Trinity Gilbert, Tess Jaske, Claire Koeppel, Aubrey Lonergan, Zach Nanul, and Kailey Porter. The Pleasant Prairie Patriots Swim Team finished in 9th place out of 14 teams.
