Mitchell Elementary and Middle Schools in Racine recently experienced a fire. Students and staff have been moved to alternate school locations until repairs have been completed. Students and staff are not allowed to go back into the building to retrieve any school supplies or personal belongings.
InVEST of Pleasant Prairie is currently holding a School Supply Drive to help replace some of the basic supplies Mitchell students have lost. Items will be collected now through Friday, March 14 at the following locations in Pleasant Prairie: RecPlex – 9900 Terwall Terrace; the Roger Prange Center – 8600 Green Bay Road; and Village Hall – 9915 39th Avenue.
Supplies needed include: new and gently used picture books, chapter books, and easy readers; crayons; colored pencils; notebooks; folders; pencils; pens; loose-leaf paper; markers; glue/glue sticks; scissors; staplers; tape; pencil boxes; tissues; binders; construction paper; post-it notes; electric pencil sharpeners; and gently used gym shoes (up to adult size 9).
InVEST member Erin Winch expressed advanced thanks to all those who can help. Winch stated, “Even the smallest donation of a box of crayons will help. And we would truly appreciate any help that people can offer.” Businesses and organizations in Racine are also collecting supplies for the Mitchell School students and staff. InVEST is an acronym for Involved Village Employees Serving Together. As an independent charitable entity, InVEST is ruled by a Board and Executive Committee comprised solely of employees of the Village of Pleasant Prairie.
