Resolution Adopted in Response to Public Input Regarding Temporary Stop Signs
Along Bain Station Road and at Highway C and 104th Avenue
On Monday, December 15, 2014, the Pleasant Prairie Village Board adopted a resolution requesting that the Kenosha County Public Works/Facilities Committee consider making three temporary four-way stops (on County roads in the Village) permanent with solar-powered, flashing, red lights. The resolution was adopted in response to public input received regarding the temporary stop signs at the intersections of: County Highway H and Bain Station Road; County Highway C and Bain Station Road; and County Highway C and 104th Avenue.
The stop signs were initially installed to help manage increased traffic traveling through a detour route around construction at the intersection of County Highways C and H. After observing traffic traveling through and between the intersections, the Village asked the County to leave the temporary signs in place until public feedback could be gathered regarding the intersections. The County agreed, and public input was collected between September 29 and October 30, 2014. A total of 391 responses were received through an online public forum.
Public input indicated that 73.4% of total respondents felt stop signs at the intersection of Bain Station Road and County Highway H make it safer to travel through, and 71.6% believe the County should consider keeping the stop signs at this intersection. Regarding Bain Station Road and County Highway C, 77.7% of total respondents felt stop signs at the intersection make it safer to travel through, and 77.2% believe the County should consider keeping the stop signs at this intersection. Regarding County Highway C and 104th Avenue, 58.8% of total respondents felt stop signs at the intersection make it safer to travel through (while 29.2% did not), and 57.5% believe the county should consider keeping the stop signs at this intersection (while 32.2% did not).
The public input and a copy of the resolution were forwarded to Kenosha County for consideration. The County Public Works/Facilities Committee is expected to consider the public input and resolution at an upcoming meeting. The Village would like to thank the public for their input and Kenosha County for their consideration.
