On June 9, the Pleasant Prairie Plan Commission approved Site and Operational Plans for We Energies to construct a new ladder track at their Pleasant Prairie Power Plant. The new section of railroad track will enable repair of railcars to take place on-site at the power plant by a railcar repair company, as opposed to having to transport the rail cars to a repair shop in Cudahy, Wisconsin.
A We Energies’ document indicated that the construction of the ladder track will lessen rail traffic on the Union Pacific track in the area, as the need to move railcars on and off of the property via the Union Pacific Railroad will be significantly reduced.
The company has plans to construct approximately 2,500 linear feet of new rail in addition to related supports and switches in order to accommodate the on-site repair work. Construction of the ladder track is expected to begin during September of this year (2014). The project is expected to take two months to complete. No new buildings will be constructed as a part of the installation of the ladder track.
