COOPER ROAD WILL BE EXTENDED DURING 2016 TO CONNECT VILLAGE GREEN HEIGHTS AND DEVONSHIRE SUBDIVISIONS
COOPER ROAD EXTENSION PROJECT
During 2016, Cooper Road will be extended between 98th and 97th Streets, creating a connection between the Village Green Heights and Devonshire subdivisions. Project plans call for the installation of roadway, sidewalks, storm sewer, sanitary sewer, and water main.
PURPOSE, TIMING AND LOCATION OF PROJECT
The completed connection between the two subdivisions has been part of the neighborhood plan for the area for several years and will offer emergency responders a third point of access to each residential area. The connection will reduce the travel time for emergency responders by eliminating the need to travel all the way to either Green Bay Road on the west or 39th Avenue on the east to navigate between the two residential areas.
The project is expected to be put out to bid early this year with work on the project to take place once road construction season is underway. Plans currently call for the work to be completed by August of this year.
The area where construction will take place is bordered by Village Green Park to the east, Village owned land to the southwest, and privately held vacant land to northwest that has been identified for future residential development.
ADDITIONAL WORK IN SAME AREA
Additional but separate improvements are currently being considered for Village Green Park during 2016. Input was recently sought regarding park improvements in the Village that will be funded with previously collected impact fees. Improvements were discussed at a Village Park Commission Meeting in January. Watch upcoming issues of the Village Newsletter for more information once plans for the park improvements have been finalized.
