PLEASANT PRAIRIE OFFICER RECEIVES LIFE SAVING AWARD
On March 21, Officer Sanford Severson of the Pleasant Prairie Police Department was presented with the department's Lifesaving Award. The award is presented to members of the department who "clearly and directly" save a life or prevent bodily harm that would have resulted in a death.
Officer Severson received the award in response to a call in late December of 2015. While on duty, Officer Severson responded to a call for a serious medical event. Upon arrival he identified that an unconscious male was not breathing and had no pulse. Officer Severson initiated and continued CPR and rescue breathing for approximately four minutes until rescue personnel arrived. Rescue personnel indicated that Officer Severson's early use of CPR played a large role in the return of spontaneous circulation to the patient.
The Village of Pleasant Prairie and the entire Pleasant Prairie Police Department wish to extend sincere congratulations to Officer Severson for his heroic response and thank him for his dedication in service. Pleasant Prairie Chief of Police, David Smetana, added, "Officer Severson is a highly trained professional who has shown on numerous occasions his concern for the community he serves, and we thank him very much for his service."
