LOCAL COMPANY DEVELOPS CUSTOM LIGHTING SOLUTION FOR RECPLEX
During 2015, staff began researching options for replacement lighting in the leisure pool at RecPlex. RecPlex was interested in using LED lighting to realize savings in both energy and labor costs. Several quotes were received. Staff met with representatives from local lighting company Ohyama Lights, a division of IRIS USA located in LakeView Corporate Park.
RecPlex staff sought a solution that would be long lasting, energy efficient, and would require less maintenance than the original fixtures. The nature of the environment inside an aquatic center is hard on electrical fixtures. The company recommended a custom lighting solution that was still under development. This particular light maintains a uniform color and output quality over the life of the fixture.
Ohyama powder coated the fixtures to protect from humidity and chlorine, inverted the fixtures to shine upward, and customized the color and the wattage to match the pool environment. The former lighting cost approximately $12,000 per year to run. The new fixtures will cost approximately $4,000 per year and are expected to save approximately $1,500 per year in maintenance expenses.
