PLEASANT PRAIRIE VILLAGE BOARD APPROVES UPDATED MABAS AGREEMENT
On Monday, June 20, 2016, the Pleasant Prairie Village Board considered and approved an updated Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) Agreement. MABAS is a well-defined network of area fire departments and provides for the orderly sharing of resources and personnel during emergency response situations.
MABAS, which now includes more than 750 member fire departments, originated in northern Illinois during the late 1960's. Pleasant Prairie became the first Wisconsin member of MABAS in 1987. Pleasant Prairie last signed a MABAS agreement in 2001. The current MABAS agreement takes recent changes in Wisconsin law and MABAS' expanded scope into account.
Pleasant Prairie Chief of Fire & Rescue Doug McElmury explained, "While we are all responsible for serving our respective communities, it's great to know that when our communities need extra assistance to manage multiple simultaneous or larger scale emergencies, there are others out there who have our back. MABAS has enabled neighboring departments to assist each other in an organized and efficient manner over the past few decades. It's an excellent example of multi-jurisdictional cooperation."
