PLEASANT PRAIRIE REQUESTS INTERVENTION REGARDING ATC'S CONSTRUCTION OF A POWER TRANSMISSION LINE IN THE VILLAGE

On Monday, February 20, the Pleasant Prairie Village Board authorized Village staff to file a request with the Public Service Commission relating to American Transmission Company's (ATC) plans to construct a new power transmission line. ATC is seeking permission from the Wisconsin Public Service Commission (PSC) to construct a new power transmission line that will transport power from Wisconsin into Illinois.

The Village of Pleasant Prairie is requesting to intervene in the matter before the Public Service Commission, because ATC's preferred route for the power lines could have a negative impact on both private and publicly owned lands within the Village. ATC's preferred route is 1.2 miles in length and begins in an area north of 122nd Street and immediately east of 85th Avenue (a residential street). The preferred route proceeds south between Pleasant Prairie's new Residential Recycling Center and privately owned property to the east that has been entertaining development interests.

The Village opposes ATC's preferred route because: it would jeopardize the future development potential of privately owned land; it would be located too close to existing residential properties; and it would interfere with operations at the Village's Residential Recycling Center and an existing sewer lift station.

Village representatives have requested that ATC select an alternate 1.6-mile route for the transmission line that travels south along the Canadian Pacific rail line from 122nd Street to State Line Road and then east along State Line Road to an existing ATC Transmission Line Corridor that runs south along the Union Pacific rail line. ATC has not been responsive to Village attempts to discuss the matter.

2017
