In an effort to protect the local water supply and prevent sewer backups, the Public Works Department is conducting sewer line assessments. These assessments began during the month of July and will continue throughout the fall. They are taking place in areas of the village where sewer backups have been reported. There are multiple ways that an inspection can be conducted, including; external inspections, video inspections within the sewer lines, and internal inspections in homes. Letters will be sent to homes requiring an internal inspection.

Please help prevent backups and basement flooding by ensuring that your sump pump is not connected to the sanitary sewer. Discharge from only a small number of sump pumps can cause the sanitary sewer to back up into basements of homes. Because sanitary sewage can cause both property damage and serious health and safety concerns, it is illegal to drain your sump pump into the sanitary sewer line.

Please be reminded that Section 28.008 B.5 of the Village Municipal Code states that all residential sump pump discharge shall be directed to the street yard, natural drainage way, or approved storm sewer system so as to not saturate, accumulate, or damage the subject property or adjacent properties. Residents found violating this ordinance are subject to fines.
