Posted on 08/14/2017
The public is invited to join Pleasant Prairie Fire & Rescue as they host the second annual Safety Day in the Prairie on Saturday, September 23, between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Safety Day in the Prairie will be held at Pleasant Prairie Fire Station #1 (3801 Springbrook Road). This is a free event that is open to the public.

Safety Day in the Prairie will feature: the new 100’ aerial platform fire truck and show its capabilities, a demonstration by the Wisconsin State Patrol will take place emphasizing the importance of wearing seatbelts, and the Flight for Life helicopter is scheduled to appear early in the event (10:30-11:30 a.m.). There will be fire station tours, rescue demonstration, the fire safety house exhibit, and presentations from fire rescue and local law enforcement officers highlighting the new coordinated approach when responding to an active shooter incident. Complimentary refreshments will also be served.

Craig Roepke, Chief of Fire & Rescue commented that, “This is an opportunity for residents to meet their firefighters and learn about the varied functions and duties carried out by the fire & rescue department. Firefighters go through frequent training to update and learn new skills to make sure that they are prepared for the numerous types of emergencies that they encounter on a day to day basis.”

Safety Day in the Prairie is being held in advance of Fire Prevention month, which takes place during the month of October. Members of Pleasant Prairie Fire & Rescue encourage all residents to have a fire safety plan and to discuss fire safety with members of their household.

Safety Day in the Prairie is sponsored by the Pleasant Prairie Fire Rescue Association, Inc., a 501c (3) nonprofit organization that supports the Pleasant Prairie Fire & Rescue Department and works to enhance public safety. Members of the Pleasant Prairie Fire & Rescue Department wish to sincerely thank those who have shown their support for the department.
