On Monday, March 2, the Pleasant Prairie Village Board approved a professional service contract with Ayres Associates, Inc. for design services for the Lakeview Roundabout project. The contract will provide design engineering services for the reconstruction of 120th Avenue, Corporate Drive, and 116th Avenue. The project intends to reconstruct the intersection at the three roads into a roundabout to enhance the movement of vehicles near Premium Outlets.
“The current intersection at 120th Avenue, Corporate Drive, and 116th Avenue has a complicated traffic pattern that doesn’t function well,” said Matthew Fineour, Pleasant Prairie Village Engineer. “Adding a roundabout to the location is an ideal solution and an investment that will improve traffic flow in the area.”
The Village initiated a Traffic Improvement Analysis (TIA) in 2015 to review roadway improvement needs in Lakeview Corporate Park. The analysis recommended improvements for the western area of the park.
A public informational meeting was held on May 25, 2017, for residents and nearby businesses to view the conceptual drawing plan for the project and provide feedback. The design improvements from the plan are being initiated, reconstruction for the project includes the following enhancements:
- Reconfigure the intersection at 120th Avenue, Corporate Drive and 116th Street to a roundabout.
- Construct an additional travel lane on 120th Avenue.
- Incorporate divided roadway medians.
- Improve the intersection at State Highway 165 and 120th Avenue.
- Improve the intersections at State Highway 165 and Corporate Drive, and Corporate Drive and the private roadway.
The design contract amount of $659,320 includes the full design and construction documents for all the roadway improvements, except for wetland delineations. The preliminary estimate to complete all the roadway improvements, as shown in the conceptual plan with design, construction, and land acquisitions, is approximately $10 million. The Village plans to concentrate on the segments of the project that are needed to construct the roundabout.
